Local senior neighbors need your help!
Volunteers Needed: Monadnock at Home
“The rides are my lifesaver - I don’t know what on earth I’d do without them - truly! And the drivers are so wonderful to me!”
Carol, MaH member
A growing number of seniors across the Monadnock Region are facing a sad reality. They are no longer able to drive, and cannot find a reliable way to get to their doctor’s office, the pharmacy, the grocery store and for some, appointments to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Today, they need your help!
Monadnock at Home has an urgent need for volunteers for its transportation services. You can make a life-changing impact for local seniors, helping preserve their health, food security and overall well-being, especially during these difficult times.
Volunteering with Monadnock at Home is easy!
We offer flexible opportunities to meet your busy schedule or preferences. You can volunteer one day a week, one day a month, or however often you like. Most round-trip rides only take 1-2 hours of your time. We do ask that you have reliable access to a car and a valid driver’s license.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteers drive seniors to medical appointments, the grocery store, pharmacy and other critical errands. Without this assistance, local seniors may be forced to cancel doctor visits, have difficulties accessing proper access to food, and may face deepening challenges to their health. And as the pandemic draws on, the demand for our services continues to rise. We desperately need more volunteers!
This is a highly rewarding and fulfilling way to give back to the local community in a special way! While providing a ride to a neighbor in need may seem like a small task, it's significant and life-changing for those we serve. Many times, we find it turns feelings of isolation and loneliness into happiness and hope.
Safety During the COVID-19 Pandemic
We know these are not normal times and you may have questions regarding safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please be assured that we are following strict protocols to preserve the healthy and safety of our volunteers and clients. This includes:
- Drivers and riders must wear a mask.
- Clients must ride in the back seat, diagonally from the driver. Windows are encouraged to be left open, if possible.
- Volunteers are asked to wipe down seats with sanitized wipes before and after rides.
- Both volunteers and drivers are asked to maintain distance where appropriate.
If you are not comfortable volunteering at this point in time, we still encourage you to join our volunteer list. Over the coming months, we expect the demand for services - and the need for volunteers – will continue to grow.
“When I first became a volunteer, it became apparent to me how critical the services of Monadnock at Home are to helping people stay living independently as long as possible. The whole experience has been gratifying to me. It’s pure fun listening to the stories of the client’s experiences throughout their lifetimes, and it’s made me grateful for mine. I truly believe that I have gotten much more out of this experience than I have put in.”
Mark, volunteer
